1. Have A Plan.
First thing with a good marketing plan is to really understand your customers, so many small business owners we speak to, build companies for them, instead of for their customers, and they don’t really know anything about their ideal customers. So, first research and understand who these people are and then this will begin to give you an idea of how best to engage with them and ultimately gain their trust and their business.
Also take a look at your competitors and see what they are doing, it will save you heaps of time in researching things like, what content works best, website features and designs, what social media platforms are more effective, you can really learn a lot from those who have already been successful.
2. Get Your Website Up To Scratch (If You Don’t Have One – GET ONE)
If you have a website but nothing much is happening there are probably 2 things wrong – either poor User Experience (UX) design or poor marketing, or both. Remember a website is just an online storefront, if you don’t do marketing both offline and online to drive customers to come see your store, then no matter how pretty it is, nobody will see it.
3. Remember, You Can’t Please Everyone.
Secondly, Platform choice. There are so many social media & digital platforms to choose from, each with their own unique way of cultivating social interactions between millions of people. If you tried to post a different version of the same post across all of them, you would probably give up after a few hours and cry into a jar of cookies. If you have done your research, you should have a good idea of what platforms your customers tend to be more active, so try and just stick to those ones, it’s ok to be niche, if you’re a B2B business then probably LinkedIn or Twitter are best, if you’re a B2C business then Facebook, Instagram or TikTok will be a better choice.
